Lawrence Sheldon does well to add a few extra layers to Mark, the sleazy, morally bankrupt journalist, and his exchanges with the women in particular are hilarious, especially in the context of a decade when political correctness was in its infancy. Billy, The Father, was given a powerful and coruscating performance by Lawrence Sheldon. He dominated the family in life and death yet evil though he was, the torture of his own childhood and his pathetic relief at the discovery of certainty and order in army life was so brilliantly portrayed that a guilty sympathy persisted.
