Thousands of industry professionals use Spotlight daily to find performers for roles across stage, TV, commercials and film. It has been the UK’s leading performance directory since 1927 and is home to over 30,000 actors, actresses, presenters, child performers and stunt artists.
However, until now, an opportunity for dancers to promote themselves to job opportunities has not existed in the same way.
The new directory will benefit dancers and dance employers alike, since it will provide a central point where professional dancers can be located and contacted. It will give every dancer an equal opportunity to promote their CV efficiently and cost-effectively: in a well-known, professional format.
Spotlight Dancers will be open to professional dancers with recognised training or significant professional experience in their field. Those who join will be given an entry in a unique book which features two photographs, their credits, details of their training and contact details. (Spotlight handles casting enquiries on behalf of any performer who does not have agency representation, free of charge. We take the privacy of all members very seriously and will never disclose personal contact information.)

On the Internet, dancers will be featured on Spotlight Interactive: the UK’s most popular performer website. Each dancer will have their own searchable CV page with their full details, including specialist dance skills. Showreels can also be added for maximum impact.
Spotlight Dancers will be distributed to an extensive list of dance industry contacts in the UK and worldwide. Dancers’ CVs will also be available as part of The Spotlight Link: an audition information service for performers and their agents, used daily by production teams to send out casting and audition information.
The new directory is being supported by dance organisations including the Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET) and Dance UK. Both have assisted Spotlight in an advisory capacity to ensure that Spotlight Dancers meets all the requirements of the dance community.
Ana Abad-Carles from CDET says: "A central directory of dancers will be an extremely valuable resource to those working across all types of dance. We hope that in time it will change the way that dancers are employed so it isn't just 'who you know', but instead every dancer will have an equal chance to be seen and considered for forthcoming work."
