The Spotlight Prize 2025 Finalist

What made you want to be an actor?
I was always interested in stories and art as a child and loved to write poems and songs. In school, I took my creative writing and art homework very seriously! For my first school production in Year 7, I was given the tiniest multi-rolling parts in the play. Even with this, I found so much joy in the community of that project. There was a very specific feeling that I had during the dance finale, where I knew that I wanted to do this sort of thing again. It felt so rewarding to share something special and joyous with an audience of people, and that inspired me to continue on.
What kind of actor do you aspire to be?
I aspire to be an actor who explores creatively across a range of roles and mediums and, most importantly, has a strong grasp of the technical craft. I’d also like to weave in some of the other skills and interests that I have into characters. I aspire to have a fruitful career and tell stories that are special to me and make an impact. I want to inspire someone, somewhere, to dream big.
Who in the industry would you like to work with?
I’d like to work with directors like Ryan Coogler and Steve McQueen. I admire the work that they’re creating and the impact it’s generating. Also, actors like Letitia Wright, Viola Davis and Sterling K. Brown. Their work is so varied and detailed.
What films, shows or books are currently inspiring you?
The series Champion keeps me inspired because of its hyper-locality to my own life – exploring the lives of a British-Caribbean family who love music! I’ve also recently watched Little Fires Everywhere, which had me hooked the whole way. I was inspired by the truthfulness of the characters and its strangely unique perspective on motherhood that I haven’t seen on screen before.
