Step inside rehearsals and discover how the 2026 Spotlight Prize finalists prepared for their showcase

Each year, the Spotlight Prize brings together some of the most exciting emerging actors from drama schools across the UK and Ireland. Designed to celebrate graduating performers, the event offers a unique platform to showcase skills gleaned during training and perform directly in front of influential industry professionals, including agents and casting directors.

Expressive Performances and Expert Direction

On Wednesday 8 July 2026, the 2026 Spotlight Prize finalists gathered to rehearse and present their work at the annual showcase. This year, the performers were directed by actor and director David Mumeni, who guided them through rehearsals to bring out their unique voices and artistic perspectives.

As David noted during rehearsals:

“I think it’s such a special event and an amazing space for the grads to do something before they enter the industry that’s joyful and outside their institutions.”

From discovering new dynamics in the rehearsal room to sharing their work on stage, the process offered the finalists a chance to collaborate, meet some peers, and build confidence ahead of their professional careers.

Connecting Talented Performers with the Industry

Beyond the stage performance, the event provides a valuable opportunity for new graduates to network directly with industry insiders. Meeting casting directors and agents in an encouraging, celebratory setting helps bridge the gap between drama school training and a professional career in the performing arts.

Finalist Ethan Rodmell reflected on the experience:

“Having an opportunity like this to be in front of that many people from all over the industry and appeal to different people is such a great experience to have.”

Championing the Next Generation

At Spotlight, we’ve been connecting talented performers with casting professionals for nearly a century. We’re deeply passionate about hosting events like the Spotlight Prize because we believe every performer deserves a strong, supportive start as they step into the creative community.

Watching these brilliant finalists discover new perspectives, build connections, and step onto the stage is at the heart of why we do what we do. We wish all of our 2026 finalists the very best as they begin their professional journeys.
