The Arts Everywhere fund includes a commitment of £85 million for cultural venues including theatres and performing arts venues.

Culture Secretary, Lisa Nandy, today (Thursday, 20 February) announced a new £270 million Arts Everywhere Fund to help arts and cultural organisations in urgent need of financial support. This follows the government’s previous announcement of a £60 million investment in the UK creative industries.

Included within the announcement is a commitment of £85 million for capital works at arts venues – a much-needed boost for theatres and other performance venues. The investment will be allocated to organisations in urgent need of financial support to remain viable, carry out vital infrastructure work and improve long term financial resilience.

During her announcement speech, Lisa Nandy said, “The funding we are announcing today will allow the arts to continue to flourish across Britain, creating good jobs and growth by fixing the foundations in our cultural venues, museums, libraries and heritage institutions.”

The announcement, made at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-Upon-Avon, marks 60 years since the first arts white paper, issued by Labour arts minister Jennie Lee, that promised a vision of “arts for everyone, everywhere.”

“We welcome the announcement today of the £270m funding for arts and culture, and particularly the £85 million Creative Foundations Fund to support urgent capital works,” said Matt Hood, Spotlight’s Managing Director. “Theatres and other performing venues need urgent investment to keep them safe and available for cast and crew to continue to provide their internationally recognised work. We look forward to seeing what the Fund will achieve with these much needed funds.”
