‘Shōgun’ and ‘The Bear’ break records with their Emmy wins, while ‘Baby Reindeer’ and ‘Hacks’ also win big.

The 76th Emmy Awards was a night of record-breaking wins, celebrating the talent in front of and behind the camera, and recognising the excellent television series that have kept us entertained this year. The ceremony took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with Schitt’s Creek’s Dan Levy and Eugene Levy hosting.

Best Drama winner Shōgun won 18 Emmys (including the wins from the Creative Arts Emmys), breaking the record for the most Emmys won by a series in a single year, and although The Bear was beaten to the Best Comedy award by HBO Max’s Hacks, it still won 11 awards, beating its own previous record for the most Emmys won by a comedy in a single year.

We were also thrilled to see 15 Spotlight members included among this year’s nominees. Spotlight member Richard Gadd took home the awards for Best Lead Actor and Best Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie thanks to Netflix series Baby Reindeer, with co-star and fellow Spotlight member Jessica Gunning also winning for Best Supporting Actress for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Spotlight member Michaela Coel was also successful on the night, winning the award for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Mr & Mrs Smith.

Other notable wins include Shōgun’s Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai for Best Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama Series, Jeremy Allen White once again winning Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in The Bear, and Jean Smart for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks.
