Key Takeaways for Performers

Why should I track which projects are currently filming if they’ve already been cast?

Tracking active productions gives you a clear idea of who is working where. Knowing that a casting director has a major production filming means they’re actively engaged in the current market. It helps you time your industry research, track which production companies are investing in UK/Ireland performers, and understand the genre trends currently getting greenlit.

Are there still casting opportunities on projects once principal photography starts?

Yes. While main roles are locked in during pre-production, television series and huge feature films (like The Batman: Part II) could cast day-players and emergency replacements locally throughout the shoot. If an active project is shooting in your region (e.g., South Wales or Liverpool), local casting offices often look for immediate, regional performers to join scenes.

What do these specific projects tell us about current UK/Ireland industry trends?

The current slate shows regional co-productions with opportunities expanding outside of London. Having regional bases or genuine local accents (especially Welsh and Irish for this month’s slate) are incredible assets so make sure they’re listed on your Spotlight profile.

I see several casting directors listed, should I cold-email them about these specific films?

Generally, no. Instead, use this information to update your industry knowledge. Note the types of projects they’re casting (e.g., Lauren Evans focusing on sharp, character-driven Welsh comedy; Lucy Bevan managing massive studio blockbusters). When you contact them in the future with a tailored workshop invitation or showreel update, you can reference their body of work with genuine, up-to-date industry knowledge.
