Join us as we look at 11 exciting productions taking place around the UK and Ireland this coming season.

As we say goodbye to a glorious summer season of sassy superheroes in Deadpool and Wolverine, Riley’s emotions in Inside Out 2 and feuding queens in House of the Dragon, we eagerly wonder what’s up next. 

The following films and television shows are all currently in production around the UK and Ireland, and are packed with star-studded casts and exciting, creative minds behind the scenes.  Let’s take a look!

‘The Thursday Murder Club’

You would have had to be living under a rock to not know about this exciting adaptation of the best-selling murder mystery book series from TV’s Richard Osman. 

The Thursday Murder Club tells the story of a group of lovable pensioners that live in retirement home Coopers Chase. Along with their morning walks, trips to the hair salon and visits from their loved ones, the close group of friends attend the Thursday Murder Club – a weekly meet-up where they solve mysteries with the help of the local police chief and a number of other interesting friends.

The blockbuster adaptation of the first book is being produced by none other than Steven Spielberg for Amblin Entertainment, and will star national treasures and Spotlight members Dame Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie and Sir Ben Kingsley, and Pierce Brosnan.

The Thursday Murder Club is currently filming in various locations around the UK from July 2024.

‘After the Hunt’

Big screen favourites Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri and Spotlight member Andrew Garfield lead the cast of the new film from Academy Award-nominated director, Luca Guadagnino. 

After the Hunt is a dramatic thriller telling the story of scandal and secrets as a college professor finds herself mixed up in accusations that bring up memories of her dark past. 

This exciting new production kicked off in July in London and will continue throughout the rest of the year, with casting by Spotlight member Jessica Ronane, CDG.

‘Power Ballad’

Hollywood stars Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas lead the cast of the upcoming musical comedy Power Ballad, which follows a rock star and a wedding singer who find a song comes between them in a way they could never have imagined. 

John Carney, whose previous music centric films Sing Street (2016) and Once (2007) quickly became cult classics, is both directing and writing the script.

Power Ballad is currently filming in Dublin, Ireland for the next few months and is sure to be a big hit when it’s released next year for 30West pictures. 

‘MADFABULOUS’

MADFABULOUS is an upcoming drama from rising director Celyn Jones about Henry Cyril Paget, the 5th Marquess of Anglesey, who inherits a vast fortune and subsequently finds himself in financial ruin due to his extravagant lifestyle and eccentricities. 

Callum Scott Howles will star alongside Rupert Everett and Spotlight members Clara Paget and Ruby Stokes. 

MADFABULOUS is currently filming in various locations around Wales for the next couple of months, with thecasting being done by Spotlight member Rebecca Wright, CDG.

‘Pillion’

Pillion tells the intense story of a pressured relationship between a quiet, shy young man and a confident biker gang leader. 

Upcoming writer/director Harry Lighton is bringing this intriguing story to the screen, with Alexander Skarsgård and Spotlight member Harry Melling in the lead roles. 

Pillion is currently filming in the South-East of England from July through to the end of September. 

‘Bugonia’

Academy Award nominee Yorgos Lanthimos, who’s previous box office hits include The Favourite and Poor Things, is currently filming his next exciting project in Wycombe, England. 

Bugonia follows two conspiracy theorists as they carry out a high profile kidnapping of a company CEO, who they believe is an alien from another planet. This wonderfully weird film is a remake of the 2003 South Korean comedy sci-fi hit Save the Green Planet!

The cast includes Lanthimos’ favourite stars Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, with the rest of the supporting cast yet to be announced. Casting by Spotlight member Jennifer Venditti.

‘House of Guinness’

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is back with his exciting new drama series telling the story of the Guinness dynasty. This jam-packed cast features the likes of Spotlight members Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn, Jack Gleeson and James Norton – among many others.

Currently filming at Manchester Space Studios through to the end of the year, House of Guinness is due to release in 2025 on Netflix. 

‘The Seven Dials Mystery’

Set in 1925, a house party at a grand country manor goes awry when a badly planned prank goes terribly wrong. 

The Seven Dials Mystery is an adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel of the same name, and has started production this season in the South West of England. The cast includes 2024’s BAFTA Rising Star and Spotlight member Mia McKenna-Bruce, Martin Freeman and Spotlight member Helena Bonham Carter. 

‘Young Sherlock’

Sticking with the theme of old-fashioned mystery thrillers, Young Sherlock tells the story of the 19 year old detective as he solves his first case. 

Spotlight member Hero Fiennes Tiffin leads the cast, and is joined on screen by his real life uncle and Spotlight member Joseph Fiennes as well as Natascha McElhone and Spotlight member Colin Firth. 

Young Sherlock is currently filming in various locations around the UK from now until the end of the year, and will later be released on Prime Video. Casting by Spotlight members Dan Hubbard, CDG and Rory Okey, CDG.

‘The Night Manager’ (Season 2)

Spotlight members Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman are back for season 2 in the long awaited return of the crime thriller The Night Manager

Season 1, which was released back in 2016, follows the night manager of a swanky Cairo hotel as he is inducted into the inner circle of a high profile crime organisation. 

Currently filming in London, the second season is coming soon on the BBC.

‘How to Get to Heaven from Belfast’

This exciting new comedy thriller is currently being filmed in various locations around Northern Ireland, and tells the story of three friends who reunite after the death of an old classmate. The road-trip tale follows them as they embark on a journey to uncover truths of their past while taking a drive down memory lane.

 

Other productions that are coming to the end of their shoots, and are scheduled to be released in 2025 are: 

  • Jurassic World 4 – The long awaited sequel to the Jurassic World trilogy.
  • A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – The second of the Game of Thrones spin-off TV series.
  • Hijack – The second season of the hugely popular AppleTV+ series.
  • Downton Abbey 3 – The third film in the ever-popular Downton Abbey series.
