We take a look at 10 film and TV productions filming across London and the rest of the UK this spring.
Film and television have been keeping us thoroughly entertained this year, with thrilling new releases like Netflix’s Baby Reindeer getting the nation talking and big-screen blockbusters like Dune: Part Two getting bums on seats.
Instead of looking back, we’re looking forward to some of the exciting film and TV productions happening up and down the country this spring.
‘Giant’
Pierce Brosnan and Spotlight member Amir El-Masry will star in the gripping true story of boxer Prince ‘Naz’ Naseem’s journey from humble beginnings to world champion under the watchful eye of trainer Brendan Ingle (Brosnan).
Filming for Giant is currently taking place in and around Leeds and Sheffield – where Naz grew up and rose to fame. Casting by Marta Noguera and Spotlight member Colin Jones.
‘Greenland: Migration’
Greenland: Migration is the long-awaited sequel to the big-screen blockbuster Greenland (2020), starring Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin. The 2020 film tells the story of a family struggling to survive a catastrophic natural disaster. Greenland: Migration will pick up where the original left off and follow the same family as they face a frozen wasteland and make their way across Europe in the hope of survival.
Butler and Baccarin will both return, while the supporting cast has yet to be announced. This film is currently in production in various locations around the UK before moving to Iceland later this summer.
‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2’
Vanessa Kirby and Spotlight members Hayley Atwell and Simon Pegg are joining Tom Cruise once again on another outing with the Mission: Impossible team. Dead Reckoning Part 2 will pick up where Dead Reckoning Part 1 (2023) ended. It is directed by Christopher McQuarrie and cast by Spotlight member Mindy Marin.
The plot is under strict lock and key, but with filming taking place in Derbyshire and London over the next couple of months, we can look forward to discovering more as the year goes on, with a scheduled release date of May 2025.
‘Midwinter Break’
In this exciting new drama, casting director and Spotlight member Anna Dawson has assembled a stellar cast, including Ciaran Hinds and Spotlight member Lesley Manville. Midwinter Break follows a retired couple on a trip to Amsterdam, which stirs up some troubled memories of their past.
Directed by Polly Findlay for Focus Features and currently filming in Scotland before venturing to Amsterdam, Midwinter Break doesn’t currently have a release date, but is definitely one to look out for next year.
‘Bank of Dave: The Loan Ranger’
Spotlight member Rory Kinnear is back as community bank founder Dave Fishwick in the sequel to the 2023 Netflix original film Bank of Dave. Bank of Dave: The Loan Ranger will tell the story of Dave as he battles his next big enemy: payday lenders.
Chrissy Metz, Spotlight members Hugh Bonneville and Dan Fogler – alongside Chris Foggin, returning to the director’s chair – will join Kinnear in the cast. Casting is by Spotlight member Sarah Wilson.
Filming for Bank of Dave: The Loan Ranger is currently taking place in Burnley and Leeds and will be released on Netflix next year.
‘World Breaker’
This exciting new sci-fi action thriller follows a father as he attempts to hide his daughter on an island – while striving for survival against an invasion of monsters from an alternate dimension.
Directed by Brad Anderson and cast by Spotlight member Carla Stronge, Spotlight member Luke Evans leads the cast and is joined by Milla Jovovich and Mila Harris.
World Breaker is currently shooting in Northern Ireland for the next few months.
‘The Undertow’
Jamie Dornan stars as twins ‘Adam’ and ‘Lee’ in this exciting new drama for Netflix. The Undertow follows Nicola, played by Mackenzie Davis, as she struggles in her marriage to Adam when Lee returns home and reignites emotions that Nicola believed to be firmly in the past. Secrets and passion power this story as Nicola and Lee are suffocated by their feelings.
Joining Dornan in the cast are Spotlight members Issy MacDonald, Thalia Dudek, and Anthony Bradley, who are cast by Spotlight member Theo Park and directed by Jeremy Lovering.
The Undertow is currently filming in the Scottish Highlands and is scheduled to be released on Netflix next year.
‘Slow Horses’ Season 5
The critically acclaimed AppleTV+ drama is back in production for its fifth season. Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman is back as ‘Jackson Lamb’, the leader of the Slow Horses – a team of British Intelligence agents at the bottom of the barrel due to their career-devastating acts.
The rest of the Slow Horses team consists of Spotlight members Jack Lowden, Rosalind Eleazar, Saskia Reeves and Christopher Chung, with Kristin Scott Thomas as the MI5 boss. Casting is by Spotlight member Nina Gold.
Slow Horses is currently filming in London for the rest of spring and will be made available on AppleTV+ next year.
‘Outlander’ Season 8
Now in its 10th year, Spotlight members Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are back for the eighth season of the hugely popular Outlander. Casting by Spotlight members Suzanne Smith and Simone Pereira Hind.
While working as a nurse in World War II, Claire Beauchamp Randall (Balfe) finds herself mysteriously going back in time and getting wrapped up with highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Heughan) amid an epic rebellion.
Outlander is currently filming in various locations across Scotland and is expected to be released towards the end of 2025.
‘The Devil’s Hour’
Spotlight members Peter Capaldi and Jessica Raine return for the third season of the Amazon Prime supernatural thriller series The Devil’s Hour.
Directed by Tom Moran and cast by Spotlight member Andy Pryor, filming for season three of The Devil’s Hour is currently taking place at the brand-new Amazon Prime production facilities at Shepperton Studios in Surrey.
Other films and TV shows that are in production around the country this season are:
- 28 Years Later – Danny Boyle’s highly anticipated sequel to the popular horror films.
- Christmas Karma – Gurinder Chadha’s Bollywood Christmas musical.
- The Witcher (Season 4) – Netflix’s mediaeval drama starring Liam Hemsworth.
- Lockerbie – Investigation drama based on the 1988 Lockerbie air disaster.
