Spotlight responds to announcement of £60 million investment in the UK creative industries.
We welcome today’s announcement from the Culture, Media and Sport Secretary Lisa Nandy that there will be £60m invested in the UK creative industries.
We have long been aware of the exceptional talent, creativity and commitment that actors bring to the creative industries. Greater investment as part of the Invest 2035 Industrial Strategy in our sector, will ensure that there are more opportunities for performers to be cast in a greater variety of productions, both on a domestic and international stage.
Key points from the announcement include:
- £60 million package of support to drive growth, including £40 million investment for start-up video game studios, British music and film exports and creative businesses outside of London
- British Business Bank will increase its support for the sector to help the UK’s Creative Industries realise their full growth potential, while government also launches Soft Power Council to drive investment
We understand that this is the first step in the Government’s commitment to realise our sector’s economic potential and we look forward to working with the Department of Culture, Media and Sport as it moves forward with its implementation of those plans.
Spotlight’s Managing Director, Matt Hood said “Our performers are an essential component of the success of the plans announced today. Our subscribers are cast in everything from gaming to film, radio to theatre, and it is through showcasing them that the UK can demonstrate the attractiveness of our creative economy on a global stage. It is performers who are the face of our industry and I welcome any investment that will ensure more opportunities for their talent to shine.”
