The summer holidays may be ending, but the film and television industry is just warming up. From brand-new superhero spectacles to a star-studded period drama and a fresh take on a classic action-thriller, September has it all.
Whether you’re a film fan, an aspiring actor, or just curious about what’s being made right now, get ready to dive into what’s currently shooting in the UK and Ireland this month.
‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’

After the global success of Barbie, Greta Gerwig returns to the director’s chair for the adaptation of the hugely popular C.S. Lewis novel series, Narnia. Unlike past adaptations of the books, this series from Netflix is starting with The Magician’s Nephew and will likely be followed by the more familiar The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Spotlight members Daniel Craig and Carey Mulligan lead the cast alongside Emma Mackey as ‘the White Witch’, whilst the rest of the ensemble is yet to be announced. The story of The Magician’s Nephew follows the friendship of young Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer as they discover an entrance to a mystical world with the use of magic rings.
Currently filming on location in London and at Shepperton Studios, Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled to release in time for Christmas 2026, with an expected cinema release ahead of the Netflix one.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

We head back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the next instalment of the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man films. Although the plot is being kept under strict lock and key, a number of returning cast members have been announced, including John Bernthal and ‘The Punisher’, Mark Ruffalo as ‘The Hulk’, and Zendaya and Jacob Batalon as Peter Parker’s best friends, ‘MJ’ and ‘Ned’.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton after his success with Marvel Studios’ Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently filming on location in Glasgow and at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.
This exciting new instalment to the (currently) 37 film strong franchise is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 31 July 2026.
‘Pride and Prejudice’

‘Elizabeth Bennet’ and ‘Mr Darcy’ are back in this brand new adaptation of the beloved Jane Austen novel, first published in 1813. Themes of love, class, society and reputation are all explored in this timeless tale which follows the Bennet sisters as they navigate their way through the social expectations of England in the early 19th century.
This Netflix adaptation will star Emma Corin as ‘Elizabeth Bennet’ and Spotlight member Jack Lowden as ‘Mr Darcy’. Alongside them are Spotlight members Olivia Colman and Rufus Sewell as ‘Mr and Mrs Bennet’, Fiona Shaw as ‘Lady Catherine de Bourg’ and Daryl McCormack as ‘Mr Bingley’.
The six-part retelling is written by best-selling author Dolly Alderton and directed by Euros Lyn, whose previous films include Dream Horse and The Radleys.
Pride and Prejudice is due to be released on Netflix in 2026.
‘California Avenue’

California Avenue, a new six-part TV drama, is set against the picturesque English countryside and tells the story of a mother, played by Spotlight member Erin Doherty (The Crown, Adolescence), and her child as they seek shelter in a canalside caravan park whilst they’re on the run.
This exciting new drama, directed by British TV heavyweight Hugo Blick (The Honourable Woman, The English) for the BBC is said to be brimming with humour and emotion from its star-studded cast. Alongside Doherty are Spotlight members Bill Nighy, Helena Bonham Carter and Tom Burke.
California Adventure is currently filming on location in Hertfordshire for the next few months and will premiere in 2026 on BBC One.
‘The Butler’
Jean Reno and Tom Hollander star in The Butler – an exciting action-thriller from newcomer director Tom Edmunds. The film will tell the story of a former World War I commando (Reno), whose calm new life as a domestic servant to the upper class is disturbed as he is confronted by his past with the mob.
The Butler is said to be a genre clash between Downton Abbey and Die Hard and is currently filming in various locations around the UK.
Its release date has not yet been confirmed.
‘The Saints’

Martin Scorsese and Fox Nation presents this high-end television docudrama series which explores the lives of religious figureheads, or ‘Saints’, such as Francis of Assisi, John the Baptist, Mary Magdalene, Joan of Arc, Thomas Becket and more.
Scorsese acts as the narrator in this insightful format that dedicates an episode to an individual Saint, each of which is packed out with powerful performances reenacting their lives and struggles.
After the success of season 1, which was released in 2024, production of season 2 is well under way and currently filming in Dublin/Wicklow in Ireland through August and September.
The Saints (Season 2) is expected to release in 2026.

Casting by Sarah Finn. - Practical Magic 2 – The long awaited sequel to the 1998 cult classic is still shooting in Leavesden Studios. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock return for this exciting witchy tale.
Casting by Jina Jay, CDG. - The Thomas Crown Affair – Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut is still filming in Elstree Studios for the rest of the month. Michael B. Jordan also stars alongside Spotlight member Kenneth Branagh and Adria Arjona.
