We take a look at some of the films and TV shows currently being filmed in the UK and Ireland, including ‘Enola Holmes 3’, ‘Industry Season 4’ and J.J. Abrams’ latest project.
From Channel 4’s new six-part original drama through to Lee Cronin’s The Mummy feature film, we look at some of the exciting productions filming around the UK and Ireland this May.
‘Untitled J.J. Abrams Project’
Casting by Nina Gold.
Written and directed by J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, Lost) for his own production company Bad Robot.
Although the plot is being kept tightly under wraps, we do know that Abrams’ new sci-fi venture is currently filming at Warner Bros’ studio in Leavesden. The cast will feature the talents of Glen Powell (Twisters, Top Gun: Maverick), Emma Mackey (Sex Education, Emma), Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) and Samuel L Jackson (Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight).
Expected release of this currently untitled project is late 2026.
‘Enola Holmes 3’
Casting taking place in-house at Netflix by Tayler Lenior.
The third instalment of the Enola Holmes series will be directed by Philip Barantini, taking over from Harry Bradbeer, who directed the first two films, and written by Jack Thorne.
It’s currently filming in various locations around the UK before moving the production over to Malta. The third instalment follows Sherlock Holmes’ young sister ‘Enola’, played by Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), and her friend ‘Tewkesbury’, portrayed by Spotlight member Louis Partridge (Pistol), as they head to Malta and face their most challenging and dangerous case to date. Other cast members include Henry Cavill, Spotlight members Helena Bonham Carter and Himesh Patel.
Enola Holmes 3 is expected to release on Netflix in 2026.
Lee Cronin’s ‘The Mummy’
Casting by Sara Domeier Lindo, Terri Taylor.
The Mummy will be written and directed by Lee Cronin after the success of his previous horror film, Evil Dead Rise, in 2023.
This new adaptation of the classic supernatural thriller will feature the acting talents of Jack Reynor, Spotlight member Laia Costa, May Calamity and Veronica Falcon. Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is currently filming in various locations around Ireland and is expected to have a much more frightening tone to the previous iterations of the story we have seen before. If Cronin’s previous works are anything to go by, it’ll likely lean heavily into ancient folklore and undoubtedly be full of terrifying storytelling.
The release date is currently scheduled for 17 April 2026.
‘H is for Hawk’
Casting by Shaheen Baig.
Philippa Lowthorpe (Misbehaviour 2020, The Crown) will direct, with Oscar-nominated writer Emma Donoghue (Room) as scriptwriter.
H is for Hawk is a screen adaptation of Helen MacDonald’s 2024 memoir of the same name. Telling the true story of Helen’s life after the tragic loss of her beloved father and befriending an unlikely ally in one of earth’s more dangerous predators, the goshawk.
Featuring The Crown star Claire Foy as ‘Helen’ with Brendan Gleeson and Spotlight members Sam Spruell and Josh Dylan in supporting roles.
H is for Hawk is scheduled to release at the end of 2025 and is currently filming in various locations in Wales for Plan B Entertainment.
‘Falling’
Casting by Julie Harkin.
Director Peter Hoar teams up with writer Jack Thorne to bring this exciting love story to the small screen.
This new six-part original drama, produced for Channel 4, tells the dramatic story of nun ‘Anna’ (Spotlight member Keeley Hawes) as she falls in love with Catholic priest ‘David’ (Spotlight member Paapa Essiedu). David is a successful member of his Bristol community and is devoted to his work and the church, whilst Anna is a nun that has spent most of her adult life in an adult convent. When they fall in love they must make a difficult decision, choosing between their emotions and their beliefs.
