A performer of colour getting her make-up done in a MAC store

More details about the new features launched by Spotlight as part of our partnership with M·A·C and the PMA Diverse Squad.

Published: 13 June 2024

On 6 October 2023, Spotlight entered into a partnership with M·A·C Cosmetics, the world’s leading professional make-up brand, and the Personal Managers’ Association (PMA) Diverse Squad to launch the Inclusive Complexion Edit. This collaboration was formed to combat discrimination within the entertainment industry with a set of products designed specifically for those with darker skin tones.

We’re now delighted to announce that the next step in this partnership has been launched. Starting today, all our Performer, Young Performer and Graduate members can add their M·A·C Complexion shade or equivalent to their Spotlight profiles in a new, dedicated field, as well as on sister company Tagmin – the leading software used by talent agencies. This information is then easily passed on to production teams, ensuring a performer is catered for before they even step on set.

This next phase also includes the launch of new instructional videos and content showing you how to get your foundation shade, how to add it to your Spotlight or Tagmin profile, and how to claim your Spotlight member discount on M·A·C products.

M·A·C Cosmetics, who have over 67 shades in both matte and radiant finishes – the widest range of any make-up brand – will also be offering complimentary education, shade matching and artistry support in-store to empower talent with the confidence to feel their best in their own skin. They’ll also be offering generous product discounts to productions, HMU artists and Spotlight members. Take a look at the video below to find out how to access your member discount:

The availability of these products, along with the discounts, aim to incentivise the industry to provide the right colours for all actors in the make-up chair, regardless of skin tone.

Matt Hood, Managing Director of Spotlight said: “Our partnership with The Diverse Squad and M·A·C Cosmetics is more than just a campaign; it’s a commitment to diversity and inclusion in a real actionable way. We’re not just talking about equality – we’re ensuring it by equipping productions with the information they need, allowing performers to focus on their role.”

The Inclusive Complexion Edit was created in response to a survey the PMA Diverse Squad carried out in 2021: “71% of respondents reported lack of provision in hair and make-up departments. Make-up colours for black and brown skin, and suitable hair products were just not available. Non-white actors were often required to do, or organise, their own hair and make-up, while their white peers had the professional support of a hair and make-up team. We are therefore thrilled to join forces with M·A·C Cosmetics and Spotlight for this incredible, forward-thinking campaign. The Inclusive Complexion Edit is a huge step forward in ensuring that all actors, regardless of colour, are provided for equitably on set.”
